Strolling in the Philosophical Garden in Eighteenth-Century Germany
Vortrag

Vortrag im Rahmen des Stipendiums für Aufklärungsforschung.
Abstract:
Several Aufklärung thinkers, notably Sulzer and Garve, conceived of two distinct but equivalent and interdependent approaches to philosophy: the arduous path of the academic philosopher and the easy stroll, or Spaziergang, of the philosopher who addressed the educated but nonexpert public. These strolling philosophers were associated with the layout of the English garden as exemplified in Wörlitz both metaphorically and in practice.
